English is just a start!

Hello everybody!

Today I want to talk about something that my lecturer once used to get my interest in Writing. We often heard that writing is just a subject where you write about anything on the given topics. But my lecturer is different. She used movies for our topics. We can write about anything about that particular movie regarding the topic that we had discussed in the class. For example, we wrote about the moral values in 'The Proposal'. It was fun and exciting as we needed to watch the movie and analysed it. And I never thought that writing would be as fun as this! Along with the audio and the visual, no wonder anybody would score in this subject. By using this tactic, we learnt how to do our academic writing perfectly.

I just found out at the TESL E-Zone Malaysia web, they are currently using Harry Potter movies to teach English. Basically, students nowadays tend to watch movies because they want to follow it or perhaps just having fun. But when we think about it, watching movies not only could enhancing our vocabulary and grammar skills, but also stimulating our brain to think about such language. For example, in Harry Potter movies, the characters use British English. In my opinion, even though they are using such English with a little mixture of mystical words like 'muggle', the movies can help us enhancing our English usage. It is a fun way to learn English! You do not need to go to a class or a teacher. Just read English novels or watch English movies and you are good to go!

But there are certain movies that could enhance our English. There are certain levels of English usage that are allowed to learn. This is where self-control is needed. But that is up to ourselves right?

Enough talking, I need to go back to my book. I am currently reading Jodi Picoult's 'Change of Heart'. It is a good book. Well that is my opinion. What about yours?

P/S: All credits go to TESL E-Zone Malaysia. You can read and get in touch with English too!
